GeoAI for Earth Imagery
Jun 13, 2026
- NDVI was introduced in 1973
- QuickBird had pretty high resolution, and was released by DigitalGlobe -> Maxar -> Vantor
- Both Maxar and Lockheed had to get permission from the government to release high-res satellite imagery.
- Panchromatic sensors are higher resolution because they don’t have a color filter. They only record light in a single channel (usually displayed in grayscale it seems). No filters = much more light gets to the sensor.
- Pansharpening is when you take a higher-res grayscale image and combine it with a lower-res color image.
